Dissociative Identity Disorder
and Child Abuse
Dissociative Identity Disorder (or D.I.D.) is often misdiagnosed because sufferers don't always exhibit easily identified symptoms.
Often DID is caused by severe and often prolonged abuse, often in children. If the child is intelligent, they often invent alternate personalities to cope with various problems they encounter.
Unlike the typical multiple-personality cases seen in modern media and stories, the various identities are aware of each other and often converse among themselves.
There is actually a wealth of information (and misinformation) available on the Internet. A simple search for "dissociative identity disorder" will uncover a huge body of information.
However, very few life stories have surfaces that demonstrate the process as it happens within a victim. One notable story is that of Kriss Erickson, who survived not only the horrific abuse of both of her parents, but also escaped from a religious cult her parents became involved with as well.
Kriss, a skilled author with over 1000 pieces in publication, wrote a slightly fictionalized version of her experience in eBook form, entitled Sky Eyes . She treated the piece as a story and shows the abuse from birth until her cure, along with each personality as it emerged.
Anyone who is interested in dissociative identity disorder and wants to see it "from the inside" should read this eBook.
Sky Eyes is available in several eBook formats from AKW Books
